The Industrial Digital Twin Association (IDTA) has published the “Intelligent Information for Use” submodel, originally developed under the InterOpera project with contributions from iiRDS Consortium members.

The Industrial Digital Twin Association (IDTA) has officially published the “Intelligent Information for Use” submodel. This submodel was developed as part of the InterOpera project, originally called “iiRDS Handover Documentation”, with the support of many members of the iiRDS Consortium.
The submodel defines how information for use is integrated into Industry 4.0-compliant environments. It serves as a metadata model for intelligent information, building upon the existing IDTA “Handover Documentation” submodel, VDI 2770, and the iiRDS standard. Its goal is to enable cross-manufacturer provision, exchange, and aggregation of information for use, facilitating intelligent, format-independent linking and efficient use of technical documentation across machines, plants, and smart factories. The defined yet extensible metadata model ensures compatibility with various systems used for creating technical documentation and information for use, including established content management systems.
IDTA’s core tool, the Asset Administration Shell (AAS), digitally represents each asset. Submodels form the content of the AAS, describing content-related or functional aspects of an asset. IDTA oversees the standardization and management of these submodels. After reviewing the “Intelligent Information for Use” submodel, IDTA has now published it on both the IDTA website and GitHub.
